Sri Lanka Tamil party using devolution issue for political gains, Marxist JVP says

Sri Lanka's main Tamil party, Tamil National Alliance is using the power devolution issues to achieve their political objectives, the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says. JVP member and former parliamentarian K.D.Lal Kantha has said that devolving land and police powers to provinces under the 13th will never solve the national issue of the country and no result can be expected from the measure.

Participating in a program of the state-run radio SLBC, Lal Kantha has said that the 13th Amendment or the provincial councils are not solutions for the national issue.

The former JVP MP, blaming the western colonial occupation for creating disunity among the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities in order to achieve their political and economic objectives, has said the Tamil National Alliance, the Muslim Congress, India and the Sinhala parties in the South prevented amity among the people.

"What Sri Lanka needs to do at the moment is to build a single nation as a Sri Lankan nation," Lal Kantha has pointed out.
