Report on Roshen’s killing cached

It is revealed that the human rights report regarding Roshen Chanaka who was killed when police opened fire at a peaceful agitation carried out by employees of the Katunayake Free Trade Zone has been cached. The employees carried out the agitation opposing an attempt by the government to arbitrarily introduce a pension scheme for private sector employees.

The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission handed over its report on the incident to the President four months ago. However, the government has not taken any measures regarding it and is attempting to hush it up.

Also, no details of the report have been issued to the media. Meanwhile, Dr. Ananda Mendis, a commissioner of the Human Rights Commission resigned due to various issues that influenced its independency.

Lawyers say under such circumstances people could never expect any justice from the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission.
