51 Jaffna students get scholarship from the Army.

Sri Lanka Army, deployed in the northern part of the island has initiated a number of projects for the development of the education in the area. Constructing and renovating school buildings, distributing school items, offering scholarships to children, organizing education trip to places in the south and organizing seminars for GCE (A/L) and O/L candidates are some of them.

Another such gesture of goodwill was extended by the Civil Affairs Office of the 521 Brigade at Point Pedro recently. Accordingly 51 students of five schools in the area were offered scholarships. Under this project 51 students form PPD Hartley College, Nelliady Central College, Vadamarachchi Hindu Girls' College, Nelliady Vikneswara College, PPD Sivaprakasam College and Nelliady Government Tamil Mixed school will get Rs. 1000/= per month until they complete their school education.

The scholarship project is sponsored by Ambesivam Foundation and a grand ceremony to hand over the pass books with initial deposit of Rs. 1000/= at the PPD Bank of Ceylon to students was held at the Nelliady Central College with participation of Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe as Chief guest.
