2 held over JVP’s ‘false smiles’ poster

The JVP claims that two of its activists have been arrested while they were pasting a poster to target the local government polls.
They were arrested by police at Attidiya in Dehiwala in the early hours of this morning (Aug. 24) accusing them of pasting anti-government posters, said its propaganda secretary Vijitha Herath. The poster in question requests voters not to be deceived by false smiles of politicians.

One of the arrested JVP activists was freed, while the other is due to be produced before a magistrate today, police said.

Mr. Herath told ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ that the poster was printed legally and said the government had admitted that its politicians were the ones with false smiles.
