Undergrads among Katunayake protesters, CID claims

by Norman Palihawadana
The CID probing the May 30 police attack on employees of the Katunayake Export Processing Zone (EPZ) claims that it has identified, through video images, several youth from outside the zone and among them are undergraduates who attacked the police with stones and poles.

Police sources said that when they visited the homes of those who had been identified, the suspects were absconding.

Several teams of policemen had been deployed in civvies to search for the wanted youth, the police said.

Fifteen policemen and over 250 EPZ employees were injured in this attack, which resulted in the death of a worker.
