TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachchandran yesterday requested the speaker to take action against the Jaffna commander, Major General Hathurusinghe for violating his Parliamentary privileges.

The TNA parliamentarian was raising a privilege issue in the parliament when be came up with the above request.

The commander of the field forces in Jaffna Major general Mahinda Hathurusinghe has recently said that Suresh Premachchandran and Mavai Senathirajah were behaving in such a manner as to start a war once again, in an interview given to a web site. He has also reviewed the report we had issued in order to reduce the number of military personnel in Jaffna.

These reports in fact have been taken up during parliamentary debates. But the statement from Hathurusinghe is a challenge against the parliamentary privileges and to speak freely in the parliament.

The incident where my security Annalingam Udayakumar was attacked at Athchcuvely in Jaffna on the 27th April should also be considered along with Hathurusinghe’s statement

Before the attack on my secretary army personnel who had gone to my house in kattapray in Kopay south on 24th April had inquired about me from the policemen who were on duty at my house.

They have asked about details of my residence and the times I come home with the ministerial security division.

Police who had gone to my office in Kayts the next dayhad asked the same questionsand had also asked for details of those working there.

This and the other incidents mentioned above are severe threats to my life. My privelages as a member of parliament have been violated by these incidents. As such the speaker should immediately take action against commander Hathurusinghe for violating my privileges, Suresh Premachandran said, in the parliament.
