Signature campaign seeks prosecution of Rajapaksa

Communist Party of India leader R. Nallakannu here on Wednesday inaugurated a signature campaign demanding the prosecution of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the international court, “for his role in the genocide in the island nation during its war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.


The campaign, an initiative of the Tamirabharani Panpaattu Arangam, is being conducted in the wake of the United Nation's revelations of “war crimes” by Sri Lankan armed forces.

The UN report has made public the liberal use of cluster bombs on the innocent public, missile attack on hospitals and refugee camps, denial of humanitarian aid to the affected population, attack on the media and civil society.

The signature campaign was launched at the Tirunelveli railway junction, said M.A. Britto of the Tamirabharani Panpaattu Arangam and director, ‘Vaan Muhil'.

Former head, Department of Tamil Studies, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tho. Paramasivan, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Political Council member K.M.A. Nizam, CPI district secretary R. Shanmugavel and others participated in the signature campaign.
