A bungalow type mansion to accommodate the President and other V.I.Ps has come up in Jaffna at the cost of 100 million rupees. This mansion is to be opened by the president shortly, as such security to this bungalow mansion is now beefed up.

This mansion has come up in the park area which incidentally was a place famed for bunkers and torture camps when most parts of the peninsula were under the control of the Liberation Tigers. The bungalow is meant for the governor of the Northern Province and is out of bounds for journalists and photographers.

The street lights from the main entrance gate and leading up to the mansion have been fitted at the cost of rupees one lakh each. Apart from this another separate building at the cost of 8 million rupees has come up for the 3 army personnel who provide security to the governor.

Sinhala laborers were mostly used in the construction of this mansion. A large area  of the park reserved for the leisure of the people has been acquired for housing  the G.A and now the rest of the park is now being acquired for the mansion for the governor.

Meanwhile the government of Sri Lanka is allocating only two lakhs of rupees and the N.G.Os only 6 lakhs of rupees for the building of houses for people who had lost their houses during the war in the north.
